D4 IS FOR THE LOVERS.

you're old enough to know: kids out on the east coast, roughly twenty years old, got coaxed out by a certain perfect ratio of warm beer to the summer smoke. and the meat loaf to the billy joel. certain songs they get so scratched into our souls.

“I’ll be nearby for a couple of days, Gloria,” Harry said soothingly. “I’ll bring you anything you want.”
“Bring me your love, then,” she screamed. “Why the hell don’t you bring me your love?”

In the last quarter of the twentieth century, at a time when Western civilization was declining too rapidly for comfort and yet too slowly to be very exciting, much of the world sat on the edge of an increasingly expensive theater seat, waiting - with various combinations of dread, hope, and ennui - for something momentous to occur.

I was really pissed at Netflix temporarily deactivating my account for a few hours today (apparently they thought I stole The O.C. when I reported it missing) but then I found out that I can watch Space Jam via instant viewing anytime I want. All is forgiven.
Plus they deactivated it halfway through The Ten and that movie peaks early, anyway.

That’s the problem with drinking, I thought, as I poured myself a drink. If something bad happens you drink in an attempt to forget; if something good happens you drink in order to celebrate; and if nothing happens you drink to make something happen.

“The extraordinary achievement of “Control” is that it works simultaneously as a musical biopic and the story of a life. There’s no rags-to-riches cliche-mongering, because for Ian, even the riches were sackcloth.”
I love this movie so much.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.] “It’s the Fourth of July and I’m wasting my time outside today. Some friends are over and they’re slurring their words in such a charming way. Balloons overhead, they went out to get food, they’ll be gone for hours. Some kids just showed up bearing a cake that says “Let Freedom Ring!” And can you hear it ring? Is this all we’ve done with it? We have stepped over god because he just gets in the way. The lights that explode above our heads sound like rifles; there are kids my age across the world lying lifeless.” - Fake Problems, “Cannonball”
